Modern, Young Women are "Lazy"
The sexist perspectives of garbage men and privileged, pick-me women.
The News
Recently, Sonali Kulkarni, a Bollywood actress made comments that “modern Indian women are lazy”. She also made deeply misogynistic comments about how women should learn to take compliments instead of complaining to the HR, about how younger women are becoming too choosy and demanding in selecting a partner, about how women should contribute in paying the bills along with doing chores in the house. You can get a detailed view of her comments here.
The thing that's perhaps more crass than the comments themselves are the huge number of misogynistic Indian women who agree with these comments. It's not unusual for men to agree with them, but for women to do so in 2023 is yet another reason why “modern, young women” are losing hope for the future.
Sexist Perspectives of Garbage Men and Privileged, Pick-Me Women
It's become common on social media, podcasts and interviews for sexist men and pick-me women to spread the view that “modern women are becoming lazy and irresponsible”.
A good woman, according to them, is their mother who toiled in jobs outside home, chores inside the home, and child-rearing after finishing it all. According to them, no matter how the man, the father, the patriarch acts, the woman must always be a responsible angelic spirit who takes good care of the family, so at the end of the day the garbage man who worked one job and slept around with multiple women can come home to a functioning household.
But after witnessing this injustice for so long and having enough of it, younger women are refusing to accept the same kind of treatment from the society and their partners. Younger women have seen their mothers and grandmothers struggle trying to juggle everything while the men do the bare minimum.
We are not taking that unfair treatment anymore and are refusing to overwork ourselves. We are demanding equal distribution of labour. This shift in our attitude to be treated as human is seen as "lazy", for it is only when women struggle and toil and go to bed at the end of the day with body pains, headaches, heart issues and depression, will society applaud them. Any woman who tries to live happily, keeping healthy boundaries is seen as lazy.
It's also interesting to note that society rarely says something similar about men who spend money to go drinking, gambling and watching strippers; not doing any chores at house and not spending time to raise responsible children. It is women who are at the receiving end of such comments for refusing to be treated unfairly.
B*tch, Please.
Coming back to the actress' point that modern, young Indian women are lazy and are contributing nothing to society, and are seeking rich husbands with houses—B*tch, please.
Modern, young women have to spend our precious time working hard trying to educate idiots like you, to fight for the rights and dignity of women, to keep the feminist movement alive so you, your daughter and your granddaughter get to live in a safer and better world. We have to make sure the guy we’re going to be spending our lives with is first a decent human before anything else, because we've seen enough women struggling with abusive, manipulative, cheating, garbage husbands.
The bar is so low for selecting a good male partner that the first thing we modern, young women see is if he treats us with human decency instead of treating us like a punching bag, a concubine, or a free servant for life (which you're so proud to be, apparently). As for a house—sigh, young women are working our asses off to save up not just for our livelihood, but for our parents and siblings because of the increasing costs of living.
Modern, young women are doing everything in our power to undo the damages you sexist bigots caused. You've done so much damage that we’re losing hope for a good future. We live with anxiety, depression and trauma. And unlike you who buried all your trauma with a smile to not discomfort the men around you, younger women are spilling ours out in hopes that other women find comfort and courage to speak theirs.
Modern, Young Women are Badass
Modern, young women are the most badass, fair, strong, just, smart and brave motherfuckers on the planet.
We will not ruin our lives and happiness trying to juggle everything to please the men and the society. We will not shut up and smile when men act like perverted creeps. We will not settle for a man who doesn't love us, respect us, uphold our trust and treat us in the caring way we do for them.
We will not let ourselves be treated like our ancestors. We're done with taking on all the responsibilities. We will only do what we're comfortable with, passionate about, and take responsibility only for what we need to.
We don't want to be struggling goddesses who you appreciate in your little awards speeches for supporting you and your career all your life. We want those awards for ourselves. Hell, we may not even want those awards, we might wish to just live safely, happily and comfortably. That doesn't make us lazy. That makes us human. And we will make sure to raise our children by teaching them the same principles so they don't grow up into misogynistic brats like you.
Young women aren't lazy and demanding. We're just not letting the world take advantage of our silence anymore. We're not accepting being treated as anything less than human. Grow the hell up and deal with it.
